ASGA has collaborated with acclaimed industry artist Cody Richardson to fundraise for Year 2 of #TheAlbieProject with an exclusive art collection. The seven (7) unique, limited edition custom license plate art albies are now live on The ASGA Shop.
Cody Richardson is a Colorado native who grew up exploring the rivers and streams of the Rocky Mountains. He switched gears from a career in fire fighting to pursue a personal passion for fly fishing and unique artwork. Starting out by creating personal designs in his home shop for friends and family, these pieces caught on through local Colorado fly shops, and are now carried and sold in shops around the world. We admire Cody’s efforts to utilize his unique art style to support just causes and we’re honored to have a chance to join the Cody’s fish family.
The ASGA team connected with Cody earlier this year and it didn’t take long for all parties involved to realize a custom false albacore collection was a “no-brainer” to celebrate the amazing results of Year 1’s efforts and fundraise even more comprehensive research this year.
If you haven’t been following along with #TheAlbieProject, we just announced some very exciting news from our traditional and acoustic tagging campaigns last week: multiple spaghetti-tagged albies that were tagged and released off Cape Cod, MA in Fall 2022 were recently recaptured off the coast of Jupiter, FL. The cherry on top: those tagged fish were recorded and released to swim another day. That same week, our friends at the New England Aquarium let us know that our little tunnys touting acoustic tags pinged all the way from the Vineyard to the Carolinas and southern Florida. This is all monumental news for albie lovers. We are gradually building a rocksolid case to show stock connectivity in the Atlantic. That has big implications for future management and a better understanding of this undervalued fishery.
We can’t think of a better way to celebrate this connected coast than a collection of albies built upon the core states that host the 500,000+ targeted trips for albies each year. Each of the seven art pieces has a unique arrangement of plates unlike the others, so if you see your home waters represented you’ll want to get on that tunny before someone else does!
You can check out the full collection of pieces here. Don’t wait too long to grab yours!
