The Atlantic striped bass fishery is at a crossroads. On December 16th, 2024, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) Striped Bass Management Board will hold a pivotal meeting to determine the next steps for striped bass management. Decisions made at this meeting could shape regulations for years to come, and your voice can make a difference.
Why Public Comment is Crucial
Public comment is one of the most potent tools to influence fisheries management. It demonstrates to decision-makers the level of public impact their decisions make and what their constituents want to see out of their actions. Every signature, voice and story adds weight to the collective push for responsible management of this shared resource.
ASGA is spearheading efforts to amplify the voices of concerned anglers and conservationists. Signing our Official Letter, participating in public webinars and submitting your own letter to the Board are direct actions you can take to contribute to the movement.
Other Opportunities to Learn More & Make Your Voice Heard
If you’re in Maine or Rhode Island, you have a unique opportunity to participate in public webinars hosted by your state. These meetings allow you to share your perspective directly with decision-makers and learn more about the proposed changes. Additionally, members of the public can tune in to the Atlantic Striped Bass Advisory Panel. Please note that this is a working meeting. The public is welcome to listen in, but there will be limited opportunity to provide comments during the webinar. The AP asks that the public please mute their lines in order to minimize distractions to the Committee’s deliberations
