Blending Art & Advocacy: A Compleat Angler Community Gathering

Nestled in the heart of Darien, Connecticut, The Compleat Angler has been a cornerstone of the local fishing community since 1983. This fly shop is more than just a retail location; it’s a community hub for anglers of all levels. Known for its knowledgeable staff and exceptional customer service, the shop has built a reputation as a trusted resource for fishing gear, expert advice, and stories shared among enthusiasts. The Compleat Angler has always been about more than selling equipment; it’s about fostering a love for the water, conservation, and the art of angling.

Over the years, The Compleat Angler has become a hub for education and community engagement, regularly hosting events, workshops, and presentations aimed at inspiring anglers and promoting sustainable fishing practices. Its walls are lined with history, dedicated to preserving the traditions of fly fishing.

Next month is a big one for our beloved striped bass. On December 16th, the Atlantic States Marine Fishery Commission will meet to finalize regulations for stripers for the 2025 season. With the stock currently experiencing a 6th year of poor spawns, these new regulations will decide if we can rebuild this stock by 2029. In an effort to galvanize advocates, The Compleat Angler will be hosting a community event on December 14th, 2024 from 11am-4pm. The event will feature art by local artists Frances Ashforth and The Compleat Angler’s own Matt DeLorme. Frances illustrated the book Headwaters, by Dylane Tomine and Matt illustrated River Songs: Moments of Wild Wonder in Fly Fishing by Steve Duda. These amazing artists will be showcasing and selling four original pieces (both custom and book art) as well as having prints for sale. We were humbled to hear that all proceeds will support ASGA striper advocacy campaigns.

If you’re new to the saga of striped bass management, this is a perfect opportunity to learn more and get involved. And if you’re a seasoned vet, this is a great opportunity to support your local fly shop and connect with other advocates. The Compleat Angler’s commitment to local artists, conservation efforts, and organizations like the ASGA reflects its deep-rooted values of giving back to its community and conserving the resources that we rely on.

Mark your calendars, New England anglers! On December 14th, we will see you at the Compleat Angler! Located at 319 Post Rd, Darien, CT 06820.
