In Spring 2019, SLP collaborated with Patagonia to design custom striped bass bracelets from Danner leather for the Cheeky Schoolie Tournament. More than just stylish accessories, these bracelets symbolized a rising tide for the conservation voice in the striper community and a mirrored commitment from both brands. Over five years later, striped bass advocacy is as critical as ever. So, SLP is digging up a limited batch to support ASGA’s mission of rebuilding an abundant Atlantic striper population.
When these bands were designed, the striper conservation community was gaining momentum. Advocates were calling for an addendum to protect healthy year classes of upcoming fish. 2018 was an abundant year for striped bass spawning, and conservationists hoped to protect this year-class at all costs. Unfortunately, every single spawn for the coastwide stock since then has been abysmal. This is the worst 6-year window of spawning on record. In 2021, ASGA actively campaigned for a minimum size limit regulation to protect the 2018 fish. Unfortunately, the Board enacted a slot limit that decimated those 2018s. There is a much stronger conservation voice on the Board these days, due mainly to the growth & amplification of striper advocates. Years of poor spawns have left us no wiggle room: the Board will either make the clear right decisions, or they won’t. An upcoming Board meeting in December and an abundant future for striped bass hang in the balance.
You can support our united mission by purchasing one of these incredible limited collaborations.
100% of proceeds from SLP x Patagonia bracelet sales will go directly towards efforts to improve Atlantic striped bass management, including but not limited to community advocacy campaigns, educational outreach and contributions to collaborative research projects.
