Trendy Maine Tournament Chases Trout, Salmon, Smallies & Stripers

It takes a certain level of intuition, commitment and resolve to get good at catching one species of fish. It takes another level of these attributes plus a pinch of creativity and craziness to master multiple species across fresh and saltwater. The Oxbow All Species Tournament hosted in September challenges anglers to conquer the challenge of diversity in the name of conservation. Do you think you have what it takes to catch smallmouth bass, striped bass, brook trout and landlocked salmon on the fly in two days?

While well-known for their American farmhouse brewery in southern Maine and cold beverages that pair well with a day along the coast, Tim Adams and the Oxbow Brewing team have followed their passion for fly fishing to build a community event that raises funds for conservation.

The event features 2 days of fishing in tournament hours followed by what the good-vibes crew aptly refers to as a “fly fishing celebration”. When a brewing company gets together to celebrate, expect good times: exhibitions, booths, demos, artists, music – and yeah, some beer too. And there are few places more beautiful to explore than the Maine wilderness in the Fall. It’s hard to slap this experience on your calendar! Here’s a little riff on the rules courtesy of the Oxbow crew:

“As the name implies, all legal game fish species that swim in Maine waters are eligible for qualifying points in this unique tournament. The grand prize package will be awarded to the team or solo angler that catches, photos, and releases the most variety of fish species over the weekend. Additional winning categories for largest catches of brook trout, landlocked salmon, striped bass, and smallmouth bass. The tournament headquarters are at Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford, Maine, conveniently located within 45 minutes of the salty coast and surrounded by pristine lakes, rivers, ponds, and streams that contain almost all of Maine’s fish species. All proceeds generated by tournament entries will be donated to American Saltwater Guides Association.”

As you can imagine, ASGA is extremely honored to be chosen as the beneficieary for this amazing, annual community event. We’re insanely impressed with Oxbow’s commitment to maintaining a positive atmosphere, promoting best fish handling practices and raising the volume on conservation – specifically for striped bass.

There are a lot of prizes on the line. A “back up the truck” amount of top-tier gear from some outstanding brands: YETI, Sage, Simms, Costa, 12wt, RIO Products, Redington, Riversmith and Orvis to name a few. If a weekend of live tunes, guest brewers, DJs, fly fishing, artist exhibitions and drums of Oxbow beer aren’t enough to inspire your attendance, you should probably see a doctor (jokes… but seriously).

This is an intentionally tight-knit event with an attendance cap. Don’t miss your chance to register. If you do, you’ll be left with a YETI cup full of F.O.M.O. instead of fresh brews.
